With our partners, Instructional Coaching Group , Heza LLC, and SRI International, our team will design, implement, and evaluate a school-based, one-to-one teacher coaching program to improve the quality of middleschool mathematics instruction through meaningful use of technology.
Digital Promise has been working with districts and educators from across the United States to integrate computational thinking (CT) and computer science (CS) into K-12 classrooms. In addition, a CT “Look for” document might be particularly helpful to administrators since defining CT has been an ongoing challenge for school districts.
But it’s an open question whether students can learn every subject this way. Each concluded that students who learnedscience and social studies through a detailed project-based curriculum over the course of a year posted higher achievement scores than those who learned those subjects the way teachers in their schools usually taught them.
To help them succeed, the school — which last year served just over 500 high schoolers , roughly 80 percent of whom qualified for free or reduced priced lunch — provides its teachers with daily professionaldevelopment and coaching on literacy instruction and other topics.
Through this work, we see powerful examples of innovation across education — from students creating their own virtual reality (VR) films, to researchers working with technology developers to improve edtech efficacy, to educators rethinking their own professionaldevelopment with the use of micro-credentials.
