The theme for this issue, edited by Ben Ballin , is the Geography of Togetherness. Subscribers can now download the digital issue and print copies will be arriving shortly. I am very pleased to have an article in this issue on this theme. Thanks to Ben for asking me to contribute some time ago.
I downloaded an application called “free graphing symbolic calculator” which actually helped me more in AP Calculus than my actual calculator. I downloaded the “organic chemistry essentials” application to help me with new concepts, such as biomolecules and synthesis strategy. After the AP chemistry test, we started organic chemistry.

The Role of Subjects and Subject Associations in Climate Change and Sustainability Education in England report highlights the important roles of citizenship, geography and science in teaching about climate change and sustainability and the contributions that can be made by subjects across the curriculum.
It is not geography specific, but there are some useful general sections and thoughts on curriculum - something I'm always interested in reading about. Free to download as a PDF or EPUB format. I've been involved in geographical curriculum making for many years, and continue to be involved in it.
It's a perfect resource for KS2 English, PSHE, science or geography lessons, or primary assemblies , covering a range of topics including sustainability, endangered species and fast fashion. Given that not every child (or school) can afford to buy books, this is a welcome development.
When students engage with history, geography, and civics, they develop the ability to analyze texts, draw connections between concepts, and retain new information more effectively.
Each year since 2021, the Decolonising Geography group put together a pick of sessions at the Geographical Association Annual Conference, which have the potential to progress the geography teaching profession the most, with a healthy focus on decolonising education. By the start of September 2025 and the new academic year, a full suite of resources will be available for Primary Geography on the Oak National website. These will all be free to download. There are 6 units for each of years 1-6. 36 units all fully resourced with slide decks, worksheets, quizzes and videos.
However, studies show that exposure to content-rich subjects like history, geography, and science strengthens reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skillsessential components of long-term literacy success.
But I thought I’d share some reflections and learning – and now that the session downloads are starting to come through, I’ve got time to explore some of the sessions I didn’t get to. Clearly, there’s elements of both – a dialogue between Conference and the rest of the community and wider school geography.
This is only possible if, as Roberts (2017) suggests, teachers make connections between students everyday knowledge andschool geography, practise geography in the classroom and in the field, and giveyoung people the space to debate and discuss geography together. Over the last academic year I've been involved in the Geographical Association 's work to produce a new Primary curriculum for Geography in association with Oak National Academy. Each unit comes with a range of freely downloadable materials. This includes 36 units ranging from KS1-2 - with each unit having between 4 and 8 lessons.
This week, the AQA exam board has published booklets for teachers of their Science, Geography, Maths, Religious Studies, Citizenship. The Geography one is 2Mb download, and is 14pp long. The booklets are available on this link. Why not let colleagues in those other subjects know about the booklets.
The GA and RGS(IBG) were awarded funding for a joint initiative called the Action Plan for Geography (2006-2011) whose Young Peoples Geographies project involved CEO Ian as a participating academic [see the project website archive on the Wayback Machine here ]. Quite a few people have shared how they use prompts to elicit certain outcomes from LLMs in a geography context. You can download a free geography BINGO game here. I give each student a BINGO board and call out one question at a time. If the student has a word that is the answer to a question, they cover the word with a counter or other marker. The great news for this game is that it requires little to no prep.
