OPINION: Too many students just aren’t interested in what is being taught

I didn’t explore my Korean heritage until college and only learned about LGBTQ+ historical leaders in my late twenties. Still, my love of history had an outlet in school. I used to advocate teaching all students Shakespeare, “Nineteen Eighty-Four” and the other books that show up most often on high school reading lists.
