An article appeared in the Global Post , which highlighted this portion of our trip. Before, during, and after the trip students engage in authentic learning elements while enhancing essential skill sets such as communication, collaboration, criticalthinking, media/digital literacy, and global awareness.
I was so excited to teach this class, I spent the summer collecting articles and artifacts from the local library and historical society. Researchers have found that culturally relevant education can increase grades, participation and criticalthinking skills and can lead to higher graduation rates.

To counter this, teachers emphasize the inverted pyramid style, which prioritizes placing the most crucial information at the beginning of the article, or even in the headline. Introducing these artifacts often prompts students to share their own, creating a powerful, emotional experience.
