Because students missed so much instruction during the pandemic, teachers should get extra time to fill all those instructional holes, from teaching mathematical percents and zoological classifications to discussing literary metaphors and Americanhistory. That’s worked well in Chicago high schools but not in Miami middle schools.
Don’t get me wrong, we believe that traditional methods are important as well. You can address history, economics, sociology, you know all the facets of social studies. Some of the major goals were to address history told from multiple perspectives and told through a culturally responsive lens. But we can’t stop there.
