Teaching AmericanHistory emphasizes the use of primary documents. Why, then, is Teaching AmericanHistory publishing a series of narrative histories? In case you didn’t know about the narrative histories, let me describe them, before I explain them.
We live in a time right now, in 2024, where things don’t have to make sense. Now none of this makes sense. The math doesn’t add up. But guess what? Facts don’t actually have to matter. Logic is relevant or irrelevant. It just depends. And that’s exactly what happened then.
In my school days, we learned only the positive spin on Americanhistory. As a college student and a graduate student and an adult, I learned about the dark side of our nation’s history. My mother was an immigrant from Bessarabia who would not tolerate a bad word against the country that took in her family.
