The number of students taking The College Board’s Advanced Placement tests in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish rose 68 percent from 2008 to 2018. Costel-Tudor Voica, a junior from Moldova majoring in economics, said that being in a class with native speakers was thrilling: “I can take my Chinese to the next level.”.
