Still, my reaction to the current dialogue about humanities is this: The best way to save the English major is to abandon it. I am a poster child for the English major. In my own career, I leveraged what I learned studying English.

Over the years, I have come to understand what these divisions are, what they do, how they are governed, and, in fact, found not just one but two intellectual communities for myself! I mean, I wasnt totally clueless. But I couldnt really tell you anything about them.
